Relationships can be one of the most difficult challenges to navigate. Knowing yourself and understanding how your coping strategies affect your relationships is a step in the right direction. Relationships take willing participants and common goals. Honest communication is a valuable resource when utilized effectively. I take a systemic approach to couples counseling as both individuals bring forward their strengths and challenges to the therapeutic process. (For more information, see Good Therapy.)
A systemic approach to family therapy also sheds light on how many factors can keep individuals stuck in coping behaviors that disrupt family dynamics. Addiction, addictive behaviors, stress, anxiety, and depression can all be symptoms of navigating the family dynamics. Acknowledging that these behaviors are viewed from many perspectives can shed light on the dynamics that sustain the behaviors. Exploring these perspectives allows everyone a voice and creates commonality towards shared goals and family values. (For more information, see Good Therapy.)
